Just a little "announcement" thing

Postby Cyfaill » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:32 pm

[I’ve put this in this section because I’m not sure where else it would go; feel free to move it, Shard]

Y’all may not find this very interesting or important or whatever, but I just wanted to tell you, ‘cause I’m quite happy about it.

A few weeks ago I joined another online forum, run by a woman who owns a New-Agey store in a nearby city. I’m the youngest on there by far but we’re all quite similar. As you know, I don’t believe in any gods or deities but I love and respect nature and wildlife etc. and am very in tune with it. For a while I've felt that I'm too interested in paganism for it to just be an interest, but up until now I’ve told myself that I’m not pagan, that it is just a great interest. (Does that make sense? Haha). Now, after reading some of the posts on the other forum before I joined and thinking about it, I’m beginning to feel that I am pagan. At the moment I'm unsure whether I want to follow a specific path like Wicca or druidry, but my spirituality at least is pagan. Perhaps not in religion or in the same way as others, but in my own way, however undeveloped that may be as of yet.
:)

Others may think that there is more to being pagan than just loving nature, though. I’d be interested to know what you lot think.

Why do Gods necessarily have to be gods?

Good question. What exactly do you mean by that?

Hmm. I've always felt that I'm a pagan, though not by the dictionary definition, and I share most of your beliefs (or rather, lack thereof of beliefs) on gods and deities, as well as your love of nature and wildlife. Since there isn't any worshipping involved, I'd say I don't have a religion. Perhaps you could say that I merely subscribe to pagan philosophy.

No that's not it at all. I did want to be pagan - do - but I guess I didn't feel I could 'justify' calling myself a pagan when I don't practice magick or believe in any gods or anything. Then it kinda sunk in that there aren't really any rules or set beliefs, and even if there were, if I feel pagan, why should I not be able to call myself one just because I don't do or believe things other pagans do.

They don't. But to me, gods and goddesses are supernatural beings who abide in some sort of unearthy domain - that's what I've always thought of them as, and I don't believe in those. But nor am I an animist; I don't believe that every elemental thing on earth like mountains and trees and animals have spirits. On the other hand my desire to be close to and in nature is not normal, and I don't see nature as just beautiful scenery or whatever, the wind isn't just moving air. Argh, I really can't express this...

Would I be correct to say that you both feel this connection to nature? This ingrained love for all things natural? When you're in nature, you feel at peace with everything on earth, no?
Everytime I look at photographs of scenes of nature, I feel like sighing contentedly. I don't know why.
